University of New Mexico Symphony Orchestra
This concert explores the powerful forces of nature, a theme deeply connected to many Indigenous cultures, where nature is revered as a living entity that shapes our lives. Through three distinct works, we journey through the motion and energy of the natural world.
We begin with Anna Clyne’s Restless Oceans, a piece that captures the relentless power of the sea, symbolizing resilience and unity. Next, Victor Agudelo’s El Sombrerón draws on Maya-Quiché legends and the rich cultural landscapes of Mexico, Guatemala, and Colombia. Agudelo’s music evokes the mystical relationship between nature and the supernatural, bringing folklore to life through vibrant and eerie atmospheres. We close with Dvořák’s 8th Symphony, a joyous celebration of nature’s beauty and vitality. Deeply inspired by the landscapes and folk traditions of Bohemia, the countryside comes alive in radiant melodies and dance-like rhythms, expressing the composer’s love for his homeland.
This program connects us to nature in motion, reminding us of its enduring presence and the cultural significance it holds, particularly in traditions that honor its forces.
University of New Mexico Sinfonia

The concert concludes with a modern favorite, showcasing the timeless appeal of patterns in sound.
